QuarkPrivacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
Quark (“we,” “us”) provides an educational platform that helps learners practice and track mastery of academic skills, and helps educators create interactive courses. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Quark mobile app and the Quark Creator Studio at quarkstep.com.
Information We Collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, the password you choose (stored securely by Firebase Authentication — we never see or store it in plain text), and the display name you provide. If you sign in with Google, we instead receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account; we never receive your Google password.
Learning activity
As you use lessons, we collect your exercise answers, whether they were correct, how long you took, and which hints you used. We use this to track your course progress, experience points (XP), skill mastery, and daily practice streaks, and to schedule review of material you’re still learning.
Creator content
If you use Creator Studio as an educator, we store the courses, lessons, exercises, and media files you create and upload, associated with your account.
Content you submit
If you report a problem with lesson content, we collect the report details you provide. Reports shown to course creators never include your identity.
Technical information
Our infrastructure provider (Firebase, a Google Cloud service) automatically records standard technical logs such as IP addresses as part of operating the service. We do not integrate advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to operate Quark: authenticate you, save and display your progress, personalize what you review next, show creators how their courses perform in aggregate, and respond to content reports. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your information.
Who We Share Information With
We use Firebase (Google Cloud) to host authentication, data, and file storage. Firebase processes data on our behalf under Google’s standard cloud terms. We do not share your personal information with any other third party.
Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain your account and progress data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app (Profile → Delete account) or from Creator Studio (account menu → Delete account). When you delete your account, it is disabled immediately and your data is deleted within 30 days. This includes your progress, streaks, skill mastery, uploaded files, and draft courses. For educators: published courses remain available to learners already enrolled in them, with your name removed. Reports you filed are kept for content-moderation integrity with your identity removed.
Children’s Privacy
Quark is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
Your Rights
You can access and update your display name and email through your account, delete your account and data as described above, and contact us with any privacy question or request at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law (such as the right to access, correct, or port your data); we honor such requests wherever they apply.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, including Firebase Authentication, encrypted connections (HTTPS), and server-side access controls that limit each account to its own data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Changes to This Policy
We’ll update the “Last updated” date above when this policy changes and notify you in-app of material changes.
